Moxibustion is a technique that involves the burning of Chinese Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) to facilitate healing.
Thousands of years ago, it was discovered that unlike other herbs and substances that burn in an outward direction, moxa burns primarily downward. The heat penetrates deeply into the body to strengthen the immune system and relieve pain. The burning of moxa is believed to expel cold and warm the meridians, which leads to smoother flow of blood and qi.
Moxa can be applied directly or indirectly. Amanda primarily uses indirect moxibustion, either on the top of a needle or as a rolled stick that is burnt and warmed above the skin.
